Rosh Chodesh Iyar

Month of Healing & Light

Rosh Chodesh Iyar - Taurus

The month of Iyar is connected to the astrological sign of Taurus. Kabbalists explain that Iyar (Aleph, Yud, Yud, Resh) is an acronym for Ani Hashem Rofecha – I am G-d your healer. Through this connection to healing, we can begin to realize that healing is within each of us. We have the ability, through meditating on the Letters of the Month and by maintaining absolute certainty in the Light, to connect to the unadultered self – free of disease and any physical issues that we may experience.

Taurus is ruled by the Planet Venus, the Roman goddess of llove and beauty. The Hebrew word for Venus is nogah, meaning light, and the month is often referred to as the “Month of Light”. Interestingly, Venus - unlike most planets in the solar system - rotates clockwise, from left to right – symbolically from the side of judgement to mercy. This teaches us that during the month of Iyar, we are given the opportunity to transform judgment into Light – converting the desire to receive for the self alone into the desire to receive in order to share.

Those influenced by Taurus are typically comfortable, grounded and content - in relationships, possessions, finances and overrall well-being. They are often optimistic and slow to see negativity in others. While this is a powerful trait, it can also lead to complacency. The energy of Iyar - infused with both Light and judgment - pushes us to step beyond comfort and actively choose growth, refinement, and elevated consciousness.

Letters of the Month - Pei & Vav

According to the Sepher Yetzirah, the Hebrew letters are spiritual frequencies through which the universe was created. Each month is governed by specific letters that influence its energy. By connecting to these letters through meditation we can draw down specific energy to empower and enlighten us.

The letters for the month of Iyar are Pei and Vav.

Pei is associated with the planet Venus and governs the energy of the month. Its shape contains a hidden Bet within it - representing bracha (blessing). This reminds us that event within concealment there is always a blessing to be revealed.

Vav corresponds to the constellation of Taurus. It represents connection - a channel that draws down Light from above into our reality. When taken together and meditated upon, Pei and Vav form a spiritual code for healing. By mediation on these letters we can access a deeper energy of restoration - physical, emotions and spiritual.

Days of Connection in Iyar

Although the entire month of Iyar is within the 49-day, semi-mourning period of time called the Omer, Iyar contains several key days in which we can make additional connections to the Light:

Iyar 4 - Yom Hazikaron: Memorial Day in Israel for the fallen soldiers from war and acts of terrorism.

Iyar 5  -Yom Haatzmaut: Israeli Independence Day, celebrating renewal and sovereignty

Iyar 14  -  Pesach Sheni (Second Passover): A powerful reminder that it’s never too late. This day was created for those who missed the original Pesach offering. Even missed opportunities can be reclaimed. Many mark the day with matzah and a mini-seder.

18th of Iyar ( L’ag B’omer): the 33rd day of the Omer and hilula (death anniversary) of Rav Shimon Bar Yochai (Rashbi). L’ag B’omer is the only time during the Omer where it is ok to celebrate – either by (1) commemorating the Rashbi, the Holy mystic and author of the Zohar; (2) celebrating the day on which the plague that befell Rabbi Akiva’s 24,000 students ended; or (3) by remembering the Bar Kochba revolt by the Jews against the Romans in 132 AD.

Iyar 28  - Yom Yerushalayim: commemorating the unification of Jerusalem following the 1967 war.

Practical Tools for the Month

This is a month of healing -  but not passive healing. It’s active, conscious, and earned.

1. Daily Healing Consciousness
Each morning, take 30–60 seconds and set a simple intention:
“I am connected to the Light of healing. My body, mind, and soul are aligned.”
Consistency matters more than depth.

2. Certainty Over Fear
When discomfort (physical or emotional) shows up, resist the instinct to go into fear or reaction.
Pause → breathe → choose certainty. This is where healing begins.

3. Break One Comfort Pattern
Taurus energy loves comfort. This month, intentionally disrupt one area where you’re “too comfortable” - whether in health, relationships, or routine. Growth creates Light.

4. Meditate on Peh & Vav
Visualize the letters פ (Peh) and ו (Vav). See them drawing healing Light into your body - especially into areas that feel blocked or weak.

5. Transform Judgment to Mercy
Catch yourself in moments of criticism - toward others or yourself - and consciously shift the narrative.
Judgment is raw energy. In Iyar, we are meant to refine it into compassion and clarity.

6. Use Lag BaOmer as a Reset Point
Treat Lag BaOmer as a mid-month portal. Release what isn’t working. Recommit to what is.
